Ivanka Trump can lead the World Bank
The daughter of US President Donald Trump Ivanka and former US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley are named among the candidates for the presidency of the World Bank, reported in the Financial Times. The newspaper does not specify the source of its information.
World Bank Group President Jim Young Kim will resign from February 1, executive director Kristalina Georgieva will take over as head of the bank. The World Bank expects to complete the process of discussing candidates for the presidency until mid-February, and the approval process – until mid-April.
According to the Financial Times, candidates for this post include Haley, Ivanka Trump, US Undersecretary of State for International Affairs David Malpas and head of the US Agency for International Development Mark Green.
According to the Financial Times, a representative of the US Treasury Department said that the agency received “a significant number of recommendations for good candidates” and began an internal review process.
Jim Yong Kim leaves office long before his term expires in 2022. He served as president of the bank for over six years. The official reason for the resignation is the desire to return to work in the private sector of the economy.
The President of the organization chairs the meetings of the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall management of the Bank. According to tradition, the president of the World Bank is becoming a US citizen – the country that is the largest shareholder of the bank. The president is elected by the Board of Directors for a five-year term and may be re-elected.
