Trump looks forward to working with the speaker of the US House of Representatives
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he was looking forward to working with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, who represents the Democratic Party.
He also expressed the hope that such joint work would be “different from what many people think,” bearing in mind fears that the legislative work of the president and both chambers of the congress would be paralyzed because of the differences between the Republicans and Democrats.
Pelosi was elected Thursday as speaker of the US House of Representatives for 2019-2020.
Democrats in the mid-term elections in November 2018 won dozens of places more in the House of Representatives than the Republicans, and got control there for the first time since 2011. At the same time, Republicans retain control of the senate.
Pelosi is 78 years old. She has headed Democrats in the House of Representatives since 2003. In 2007–2011, she was the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives. After losing the Democrats in the 2010 midterm elections, became the leader of a parliamentary minority.
